fineartprinters.org sponsors “Islands of Utopia”

The association of specialist laboratories fineartprinters.org invites you to its first event in Berlin on the occasion of the opening of the Islands of Utopia exhibition. Founded in 2018 as a non-profit association, fineartprinters.org primarily wants to help the image to regain its status as an important form of expression of communication, creativity and memory.

As an organization of professional art producers, fineartprinters.org’s aim is to maintain and pass on the knowledge of design, diversity, presentation and conservation. For this purpose, exhibitions are organized and sponsored, information and training events are offered, and internships are arranged. For this purpose, exhibitions are organized and sponsored, information and training events are offered, and internships are arranged.

In this way, pupils, students and artists are to be given the opportunities, techniques and experiences of professional image creation and presentation. Ultimately, the aim is to pass on this knowledge and also to provide a network of professional service providers around all aspects of image presentation, which give the artist the necessary freedom for his creative work. In addition, this competence is intended to attract new photographers beyond the city and state borders and to position Berlin again as an international center for image design.

Islands of Utopia

Exhibitions have always been the place of perfect presentation and communication.

Therefore fineartprinters.org chose the first exhibition of the “Museum of Subcultures” in Berlin for its kick-off event: Islands of Utopia in the House of Statistics on Alexanderplatz. It tells of subcultures and communities that explore new living spaces from the water. The pictures of the American photo artist Tod Seelie are sponsored with large format prints.

Again and again free spirits, rebels and artists went to the water to look for new possibilities and means of expression that they could not find on land:

Swimming Cities in photographs by Tod Seelie The Swimming Cities are fantastic rafts, constructed by a group of artists, craftsmen and sailors around the New York artist Swoon. In 2008 they sailed the Hudson River and in 2009 they entered the Venice Biennale. In addition to the pictures by Tod Seelie, photographs by Nicole Strasser and Saskia Uppenkamp and a sound installation by Chris Keller are shown.

Tod Seelie has photographed in 25 countries on five different continents. His works have appeared in numerous publications, including The New York Times, TIME Magazine, Wired, New York Magazine, Rolling Stone, Der Spiegel, Stern and Vice. His pictures can be seen in the feature films »Perfect Sense« (2011) and »Empire Me« (2011). Tod has shown his work in solo and group exhibitions worldwide. They have appeared in various art books such as The Vice Photo Book, Hijacked, and Street World. In 2013 his first photo book was published by Prestel Publishing with “Bright Nights – Photographs of Another New York”.

The fineartprinters.org opening event will take place on September 24, 2019 from 7:00 p.m. The artist Tod Seelie will be present.

fineartprinters.org will be there with its founding members and present the concept and services of the association. Interested parties are of course cordially invited to get their first impressions on the website berlin.fineartprinters.org.
